What was your favorite club or activity in high school?:  My favorite activitiy was cheering for our athletic teams...unofficially, as I was not on the cheer squad. But, I loved painting those posters and yelling at the games!
What type of car did you drive in the 70's?:  I was the proud owner of a 1960 Rambler American and a Plymouth Baracuda fastback.
Who was your favorite teacher at Enka High?:  Dave Young-He inspired me to explore my artistic talents. I didn't even know I had any artistic talents!
Tell us what you have been doing for the last 30 Years:
I've spent most of the past thirty years teaching in one capacity or another. I started my teaching career in Asheville at Sandhill Primary, moved to Texas, Florida and Kentucky, where I taught at various grade-levels. Then, I took a break from public school teaching when my kids were young. (I was a children's minister during those years.) Now, I am back to teaching, but at the college level. I teach at Huntington University in Indiana and I love what I do. I'm finishing up my very last class for my doctorate in education this week, so I will be working on a dissertation next year. Yeah...I know...fun!
Please share one of your best (or most humorous) memories of high school:
One of the most memorable experiences was rolling Mr. Elliot's yard during a football game. I'm not sure if anyone has beat that record for the most rolls of paper on one tree! I felt bad later on, when I found out we had scared his wife and kids. As a parent of teens, who has been hit by the TP bandits on occasion, I've also felt bad thinking about the mess we left for them to clean up. Not the best way to let a teacher know you love him...which we did!

(I began training for my job in high school rolling yards w/ the "gang" in Bent Creek & those wkend social gatherings)! I look back on those days & wonder how did we survive & not end up in the system!! I've had the opportunity to travel to some neat places over the past 20 years & hope to continue travel in the future. I finally got married in 2004 to Dennis Parham (Erwin graduate) & I have 2 grown stepdaughters. We began building our house in March '04 & as of this entry we are still NOT in our house... maybe we will be in before the reunion, I never thought that I had the patience to endure 4+ years in house building!! (I think I'm preparing for my job after I retire from the State)!

I feel very fortunate to have been a member of the "Class of '78" from Enka High. I cherish the memories & friendships from all 4 years of high school... they have always been a special part of my life!

August of 78 I went into the Army and served 3 years, mostly in Germany. Saw our mates Ed and Steve Bivens over there and Ed still lives there and Steve is still in! What the ??? Met my wife there, she is American from Michigan, and we've been together since 1980! What the ?? We lived in my grandparents house in Franklin while she went to Western Carolina and I went to SCC for Radio and TV Broadcasting. We both got jobs back in Asheville and I started working at WLOS and stayed there for 5 years. Teresa (wife) then got a great opportunity in beautiful Rockford, IL and we lived there 2 years. Note, don't visit the place but it was great for her career. Moved to California in 1993 and have been here ever since. To catch you up now with myself, I played and have been interested in golf forever and since moving to IL have worked in the field. Since moving to Palm Springs, I have held a few titles but for the past 13 years I've been Director of Golf Instruction at The Westin Mission Hills Resort in Rancho Mirage. It's been a blast and has given me a lot of freedom in everyday life with no clock punching and daily outside activity. I look like hell but it's been fun! HA I've been teacher of the year in our part of the PGA for 3 out of the last 6 years and just had a book come out last year, "Secrets from a Golf Pro" which is a best seller! Yeah right! Anyhow, if any of you make it out my way come by The Westin and visit because I need the business! We plan on staying here a while unless the big one hits and then I may be back in beautiful WNC knocking on your doors. Hope all of you are well and take care of yourselves and if anyone out there reads this and gives a damn, drop me a line. See ya.

Tell us what you have been doing for the last 30 Years:
I am living in Madison Co. with my husband, Rex and our 2 sons, Elijah (13 yrs) and Noah (8 yrs) along with a menagerie of dogs, cats, goats, turtles and fish. We bought an old farmhouse and with alot of sweat, tears and angst remodeled it and claimed it as home. Rex and I work for the same health care co; he as their CIO, which means most of his work is done from home and I as a half-time psychologist. So we are fortunate to be at home the majority of the time; otherwise we could not live so far off the beaten path. Elijah plays the guitar. Interestingly, his music of choice is from our era, so I hear alot of Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, Aerosmith, Journey, etc. He is a serious thinker who prefers the world of ideas whereas Noah is our nature boy who has spent countless hrs. digging in the streambed and pond looking for salamanders, frogs and snakes. The worlds' frog population may be, sadly, dwindling, but here on our mtn, the population is thriving, I assure you. The night chorus is amazing. As for me, I am happiest outside so hiking, canoeing, gardening, bicycling and just puttering around works for me. But alas, the reality is that things like laundry, dishes, and the never-ending chore list takes alot of my time--all very glamorous stuff. When all is said and done though, life has been awfully good. I've gotten to live in other parts of the country and thanks largely to Rex's love of travel, we have seen so many beautiful places throughout the world. We're all healthy and mostly content and when we're not, it's over petty stuff that doesn't matter much anyway.

I always smile when I think of the tme working at The Asheville School along with so many good folks like Rhonda H., Tom B., Janet M., Brenda S., to name a few. Never have I had a job with such a high fun quotient and the breaks were rather intoxicating. There I go, smiling again.

Tell us what you have been doing for the last 30 Years:
First of all, Atlanta is too much fun to be trying to get an engineering degree. Despite the Fox, Augora Ballroom, and a host of hole-in-the-wall clubs featuring unknowns (at the time)like George Thorogood, B-52s, and others, I did manage to buckle down and graduate. I took a job in Cheraw,SC with a textile company that eventually was bought by a Japanese man to go vertical in the auto airbag industry. During my 20 years with Takata, I lived in SC, WA, and NC. I have subsequently worked for Continental Teves, Alcoa, and now Alcan. I've had the opportunity to travel to most of the lower 48, eastern Canada, too much of Mexico, Japan, and Western Europe. In May I got the opportunity to take over a plant in Marshall, so I'm finally back in "God's country". Mimi and I have been married for 21 years. She is currently teaching 4th grade at North Asheville Christian. My daughter Erin (18) is in her freshman year at ECU studying some form of pre-med. My son Will (12) is in 7th grade at NAC. We share our home with 2 Labs and a Springer, or maybe its the other way around. We are currently over in Oakley until we sell our home in Hickory. My intention is to build a home in Madison county. Still love to hunt and fish, but my golf game disolved when the kids came along. Lookin forward to hacking a round at the reunion, but more towards seeing a great class of Jets.

I graduated from UNC-A in 1983 with a BA in English and minor in Education. I completed my student teaching at Erwin High ( ironically, Steve Page was the principal ) and was hired there the following fall. I enjoyed working for Dr. Page while he was at Erwin. I have taught English in grades 9-12, currently I am teaching 11th grade - American Lit. I have been teaching in the same classroom at Erwin for the last 25 years! I am a Beta and FTA sponsor. Even though the Warriors were our rivals I have loved teaching there (most of the time). I married Randy Davis in 1984. He graduated from TCR '75 and I met him at UNC-A after he spent 4 years in the Air Force. We have been married 24 years and have lived in the Asheville area. We have two wonderful children, Courtney is 20 and a Biology/Pre-Med student at Erskine College in Due West, SC and Drew is 14 and a freshman at Erwin. Courtney plays 1st base for Erskine's softball team. Drew loves baseball and golf and the softball team at Erskine:). We have two labs (sisters) Dixie and Sadie and a Corgi named Sydney. She is a cutie and rules our house! Our family has spent most of our free time on a ballfield or gym with the children and in various activites at North Asheville Baptist. Jimmy Dykes('83) is our pastor and he is truly a man of God. We enjoy the contemporary praise and worship music, the traditional sermons and seeing several Jets there.
